Neighbourhood Policing

Neighbourhood Policing

Clifton South area

Your local policing team is made up of dedicated neighbourhood officers and community support officers based in your community, supported by additional officers from the wider area

We work closely with our partners and engage the community when deciding our policing priorities for your area.

By working together we aim to find solutions to longstanding local problems while maintaining our wider focus on preventing crime and antisocial behaviour across Nottinghamshire.

Engage with your Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT)

Nottinghamshire Police use a few different ways to talk to connect with local people and deal with issues:

Face-to-Face

Officers from your Neighbourhood Team make regular foot patrols across the Clifton South area: they are very approachable!

Do speak to them if you have any concerns or just need advice.

Their contact details are in the accompanying panel.

Social Media

The Clifton Police Facebook page has up-to-date information covering the local area.

The official Nottinghamshire Police Facebook page has similar information covering the wider county. Both are worth following for current news.

Notts Alerts

Notts Alerts is the community messaging service for the whole of Nottinghamshire, providing you with updates on the issues that matter to you.

It is the primary channel for Nottinghamshire Police and the NPT to communicate with residents especially those who choose not to use social media.

Use Notts Alerts to connect with your local policing team and tell us how we can best protect your community.

The NPT strongly encourages residents to sign up for Notts Alerts (it's free).

By entering your post code you will receive emailed information relevant to the local Clifton area:

  • Crime updates
  • Safety advice
  • Road closures and incidents
  • Appeals for information
  • Adverts for any events or meetings like Beat Surgeries, Lets Talk etc.

You can speak directly with an officer by replying to an Alert. However, this is not for crime reporting.

Community Events

Beat Surgery - is a planned drop in session with local neighbourhood officers from the NPT based at Clifton Police station which covers Clifton Village. These events are usually held community centres, the library, or the NPT engagement car /van that parks outside places usually shops, in different areas in Clifton, Silverdale and Wilford.

It’s for:

  • Local problems e.g. antisocial behaviour, speeding, suspicious activity: the public share information with officers which helps us gather intelligence
  • Advice and reassurance

It's not for emergencies!

Lets Talk – is a community event or survey

  • Giving feedback
  • Sharing concerns
  • Helping police understand what matters in your area

This helps set local priorities for neighbourhood teams, and offers the opportunity for an informal chat with the police. Usually, we do this at the places like cafés around the Clifton area.

Upcoming events are posted on the Clifton Police Facebook page and on Notts Alerts

The Neighbourhood Team also carries out visits to schools, universities, local community meetings and any business to which they are invited.

Communication with the public is the key for us.

Contacting the police

The Contact Us page on the Nottinghamshire Police website sets out a variety of options for contacting the police. In summary:

Call 999 if:

  • a serious offence is in progress or has just been committed
  • someone is in immediate danger or harm
  • property is in danger of being damaged
  • a serious disruption to the public is likely

Call 101 for non-emergency enquiries.

Call the UK Anti-Terrorism Hotline on 0800 789 321 if you've seen or heard something that you think could suggest terrorist activity.

Contact Crimestoppers to anonymously report a crime or suspicious behaviour:

Priorities

The three priorities in our (Clifton) area at present are:

  • Antisocial behaviour (ASB)
  • Drugs and drug dealing
  • Retail crime

The City South team has achieved good results in these priority areas as noted in this recent post by Inspector Dalby .

The Neighbourhood Policing team visits numerous community groups but most of their work is with Nottingham City Council housing and their ASB team, with whom they work very closely.

Keep in touch

Nottinghamshire Police's Neighbourhood Policing Teams produce quarterly newsletters to inform their local communities about their work and achievements to improve public safety. Please find the latest update for our area here: Nottinghamshire Police - City South News

Stay informed - and safe

The Nottinghamshire Police website has a wide range of resources and is well-worth a browse.

The bigger picture

The Nottinghamshire force has a dedicated workforce of just over 3,900 officers and staff, who are supported by a growing army of hundreds of Special Constables, cadets and volunteers.

In July 2022, Steve Cooper became the Deputy Chief Constable for Nottinghamshire Police where he was responsible for Corporate Services and the Professional Standards Department. DCC Cooper has temporarily taken on the role of Chief Constable in the absence of Chief Constable Kate Meynell.

Further details of the Nottinghamshire Police leadership team can be found on the force's website.

Gary Godden was elected Nottinghamshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) in May 2024. Having lived in Nottinghamshire for 25 years, and spending 15 years as a police officer within Nottinghamshire Police, Gary has a good understanding of the policing service and the different communities of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

The role of the Police and Crime Commissioner is described on the PCC website.

In his Police & Crime Plan 2025-29 ("A safer Nottinghamshire for all)" PCC Godden has outlined plans to ensure Nottinghamshire Police remains a leading light in national efforts to enhance neighbourhood policing.

The force already has 13% of its officers dedicated to the neighbourhood policing role – meaning it has one of the highest proportions of ‘bobbies on the beat’ in all forces in England and Wales and more than twice as many as the national average of six per cent.

The force covers a large area from Bassetlaw in the north to Rushcliffe in the south of the county.
